My husband and I used to camp several times a year when we were first married.  We lived in a duplex and it was nice to get away from the neighborhood on weekends.  Camping also fit our budget because it was so much cheaper than staying at a hotel.  The worse part about camping for me was sleeping on the ground.  We tried using the floating air mattresses that we used in the lake, as our camping mattress in the tent.  The sleeping bags kept slipping off and the mattress made noises each time you shifted even slightly.  We decided that if we were going to continue to camp we should invest in a camping mattress.  At that time the best camping mattress was out of our price range.  We ended up buying thick foam from a fabric store and used this as our camping mattress.  It was more comfortable than sleeping on the ground, but it was bulky to take along and to store when we were not using it.

We stopped camping for several years, but have recently started to take an interest in it again.  I told my husband that the first thing we needed to purchase is a camping mattress.  We started looking at what is available now and found that there are many choices for a camping mattress.  There is the inflatable camping mattress that seems to be a small step above the floating air mattress that we had tried in the past.  There is a camping mattress that is self inflating.  It inflates as it is rolled out.  Once it has inflated itself you close the valve.  To deflate you open the valve and press down on the camping mattress.  This seemed simply to set up and easy to store, however it was not very thick, so we questioned the comfort level.  Another camping mattress we considered was inflatable with a separate pump.  This particular camping mattress came in several sizes.  The inflation time was about five minutes.  The pump had rechargeable batteries, so you could bring it to the camp site charged and then plug it in when you got home.  This seemed like a nice reasonably priced option for a camping mattress, however it did not come with any way to store it.

The camping mattress that we purchased was a queen size mattress that has a built in pump.  The camping mattress inflates in less than a minute and deflates flat in even less time.  The mattress and pump fit into a duffle case that is the size of a sleeping bag.  This camping mattress cost more, but we can also use it as an extra bed on the occasions when we have more guests than bed space.  With our new camping mattress we will be camping and sleeping in comfort.

My husband and I live on one of the premier walleye fishing lakes in the state of Minnesota.  We moved here about five years ago and have loved every minute of it.  We have always enjoyed walleye fishing.  I was surprised when my husband started taking an interest in fishing large mouth bass.  There are many articles in the sporting magazines about fishing for large mouth bass, but we had never fished for them.  My husband said that we had enough walleye in the freezer and could catch more any time, but he wanted to engage in the sport of fishing large mouth bass.

I enjoy being out in the boat and getting a tan, so I did not really care what my husband was fishing for.  Then one day we were out on the lake and he caught a large mouth bass casting into shallow water.  I was amazed at the sight of this beautiful fish jumping out of the water, shaking his head trying to get rid of the hook in his mouth.  I had been relaxing in the sun reading a book when the excitement started.  My husband told me to get the net.  I stood with the net and watched the large mouth bass jump out of the water again.  After the jump my husband’s fishing rod almost doubled over as the fish bore down into the lake.  This battle went on for about 5 minutes before we finally had the large mouth bass in the boat.  We took pictures and then released this magnificent fighter.

After seeing the fun my husband had in hooking the large mouth bass I said I wanted to give it a try.  After only three casts I felt a jolt at the end of the fishing rod and then a strong pulling.  I have fished for many years and could not believe the power of the large mouth bass.  He swam under the boat in an effort to rid himself of the hook.  He then took an air borne leap from the water.  The leap in the air dislodged the hook from his mouth.  It was the most thrilling fish I ever lost!  I knew why my husband had switched to fishing large mouth bass.

Fishing for large mouth bass involves the use of artificial lures.  There is a large selection of lures in various shapes and sizes.  In the past I have not taken notice when my husband is picking out lures, but with large mouth bass fishing I have started my own tackle box.  What an incredibly fun fish to catch.  I do not take a book along in the boat when we are fishing large mouth bass.
